Counselor Corner

Kindness Matters at MVES
and so does your mental health!

As we continue to navigate through these uncertain times, I wanted to share some helpful resources. In addition, please feel free to contact me if you have questions, need resource information, or have suggestions as to how I can best support our students during this time. You may email me or leave a message on my office phone by calling (903) 537-9552. I am responding to messages between 8 am and 4 pm each weekday.

On Wednesdays, I'm sending out a newsletter to all parents of elementary students. These newsletters are full of resources, social and emotional learning activities, and HOPE. Please review and share with your family as you deem appropriate.

As we are using internet more, now is a good time to review cyber safety with your children. Here is a good overview from KidsHealth.

Everyday we make choices regarding how we treat others. This year we are encouraging students to choose kindness. Being kind is a great way to be our best and become a better citizen. To teach children about being their best, we will focus on the following tenets of character education:

August/September: KINDNESS leads to Being a Bucket Filler

October: KINDNESS leads to Honesty & Responsibility

November: KINDNESS leads to Integrity & Respect

December: KINDNESS leads to Caring & Commitment

January: KINDNESS leads to a Positive Attitude

February: KINDNESS leads to Fairness and Justice

March: KINDNESS leads to Trustworthiness

April: KINDNESS leads to Good Citizenship

May: KINDNESS leads to Good Citizenship

In an effort to help every student be their best, we will continue to focus on "Teaching our Tigers to R.O.A.R."

Respect Others
Obey the Rules
Accept Responsibility
Resolve Problems

With your continued help and support, I know we are going to experience kindness like never before at Mt. Vernon Elementary!
