Counselor Corner

IT'S SMALL GROUP COUNSELING TIME!

Letters recently went out regarding nominating students for small groups.

Small group counseling is designed to be preventative and developmental.  Being a part of a group is an excellent way for student to learn new skills, develop self-confidence, become more aware of how others see them, practice new behaviors, and better understand how to deal with the many problems life presents.

This year's topics include:

Dealing With Feelings (KG-4th)
Social Skills (KG-2nd)
Taming Test Anxiety (3rd-4th)
Girl World (4th).

For more information, please visit with your child's teacher or with Mrs. Bult. Nominations are due by November 15, 2018.

                     WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING?
Kids' Connection groups are underway for KG-3rd grade. MVES is so blessed to have wonderful volunteers working with this program. Mrs. Liz Jones, Mrs. April Ford, Miss Katie Reeves, Mrs. Susan Sample and Miss Dixie Matlock have done a fabulous job kicking off this great research based support program. Lunch Bunch, for new third grade students, is having fun learning about how great it is to be a Tiger! We have three 4th grade books clubs reading, "How To Steal A Dog" by Barbara O'Connor. These students are enjoying reading about Georgina and her adventures.  We are so thankful to Mrs. Gable for loaning us this great book and to Mrs. Ramsay for ordering us even more books to use in book club.

Kelso is back helping kids learn to be their own problem-solvers! Students in K-2 have been learning about the 9 choices they have to solve small problems among friends and others. Students in 3-4 are reviewing their KC Choices. Both use Kelso's Conflict Resolution program to empower children to make good choices and build self-confidence. For more information about these great choices and how you can help support your child, check out their Parent Page

Student's learned more about being a HERO with children's comedian, Brett Roberts. A Hero is a person who is admired for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities like good character. These respectful student's helped Mr. Roberts perform a little magic.
